Meet Mike Disch from Shelbyville. He was our grand prize winner who was chosen to escort Metallica to the stage in front of what turned out to be a record-breaking crowd at the Yum Center in Louisville. But when he woke up the day of the show, Mike was in excruciating pain. So he went to the hospital and it turned out that he needed kidney stone surgery. Now I've luckily never had kidney stones but I know people who have... grown men, tough guys who have been brought to their knees from the pain of kidney stones. I've had someone once tell me that having kidney stones is kind of like the equivalent to having a baby.... again something I know nothing about. But the point is, that kidney stones are no joke. And even though Mike had kidney stone surgery the day of the concert, he was determined to not let it stop him from the chance of a lifetime to bring Metallica to the stage.
