Mother Playing 'Chicken' With Kids Ran Over Her Three-Year-Old Son

A Houston mother has been arrested after she allegedly ran over her three-year-old son with her SUV. Police say that 26-year-old Lexus Stagg was driving in reverse in her white Lincoln Navigator as her three young children chased after her.

Surveillance video shows Stagg suddenly switching her SUV out of reverse and driving toward the young kids. Two of the children managed to jump out of the way, but her three-year-old son was not quick enough and was run over by Stagg.

The young boy was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead. Stagg initially told police that she thought she hit a speed bump. After authorities reviewed surveillance videos from the apartment complex, they realized that she was playing a game of 'chicken' with her kids, and they took her into custody.

"Cars aren't toys and playing chicken with your kids isn't a game," Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in the statement.

Stagg was charged with negligent homicide and faces up to ten years in prison if she is convicted.

"You should be playing Peek-A-Boo with a three-year-old instead of forcing him to try and dodge a 5,600-pound deadly weapon," said Sean Teare, chief of the district attorney's vehicular crimes division.
