Mumford & Sons Get Retrospective, Play Intimate Gigs In New Mini-Doc: Watch

Mumford & Sons haven't always been international superstars. Like other bands, they came from humble beginnings and recall a time where they played small club shows and record stores. In a new min-doc called Mumford & Sons: 12 Years Strong produced by Vevo, the quartet reflect on the journey that took them where they are today, and come full circle by performing in some of their favorite record stores in the U.S.: Grimey's Record Store in Nashville, Indy CD & Vinyl in Indianapolis and Criminal Records in Atlanta.

"I can just tell you what we're feeling now and that best summarizes our sort of journey together," singer Marcus Mumford tells a Grimey's employee at the beginning of the video. As the camera cuts to the band playing in arenas around the world, he admits that after the unexpected success of their 2012 album Babel they "got a bit shy... Babel just blew up faster than we ever thought it might," he confesses. "And we kinda closed the doors a bit more, and I think we lost some of the beauty of connecting with smaller audiences.”

As the short continues, we catch glimpses of their intimate acoustic record store performances as they perform "Guiding Light" off their recent album Delta with lap steel legend Jerry Douglas. The film ends with Mumford and Douglas playing "Forever" in an empty record store, and it's chill-inducing.
