Metallica Has "Vowed" To Complete New Album Sooner Than Later

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo says there wont' be such a long period of time between his band's last album and its next as there has been in the past.

Trujillo tells The Music Podcast that Metallica has been jamming on new ideas in their warm-up room on their previous few tours.

The band's latest album is 2016's Grammy-winning Hardwired... To Self-Destruct.

"We have a zone we call 'The Tuning Room,' which is a space where we can jam and warm up before the show," Trujillo explained. "We're always in there coming up with ideas and you may get a few seconds of an idea, but everything is recorded, always. And then of course at home, everyone has got ideas."

Metallica's next album will be Trujillo's third with the band.

The former Ozzy Osbourne bassist joined Metallica in 2003 after St. Anger was recorded. Five years later in 2008, Trujillo recorded with Metallica for the band's critically-lauded return to form, Death Magnetic. Eight years later, Hardwired... was released.

"I'm excited about the next record because I believe it will also be a culmination of the two records and another journey," he said. "There's no shortage of original ideas. That's the beauty of being in this band."

Trujillo says fans won't have to wait so long for the next album, but there are no solid plans to get back in the studio. Metallica has been touring a lot and it's bound to have a break coming up, he says.

"We've all vowed to get this one going sooner than later," he added. "How soon? I don't know."

Metallica has tour dates announced from May through October, and the bassist adds that the band will be busy in 2020, as well.
