'Superman' Star Margot Kidder's Cause Of Death Revealed

Superman star Margot Kidder died from an intentional drug and alcohol overdose, as per an update from TMZ and the Coroner's Office.

On Thursday (August 8), the celebrity gossip outlet revealed that the Park County Coroner deemed Kidder's overdose a self-inflicted case. As we previously reported, Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the '70s and 80s Superman films, was found dead in her Livingston, MT residence on May 13. According to the latest update, the Coroner had not specified what drugs she took at the time. It contradicts a previous statement from Kidder's manager, Camilla Fluxman Pines, who revealed that Kidder died peacefully in her sleep.

Kidder's daughter, Maggie McGuane, told the Associated Press that the family wanted to be "open and honest" about the suicide to avoid any shame. "It's a big relief that the truth is out there," she said. "It's important to be open and honest so there's not a cloud of shame in dealing with this. It's a very unique sort of grief and pain. Knowing how many families in this state go through this, I wish that I could reach out to each one of them."

Kidder had publicly struggled for years with mental illness, particularly bipolar disorder. She was 69.
